Maria Victoria Jose or Vicky is the wife of former Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, Ambassador Charles C. Jose who served from 2017-2023 at the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia. She is a graduate of BS Business Economics at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She is passionate about watercolor painting and just picked up this hobby at the start of the pandemic in 2020 while in Malaysia. She has long wanted to paint and the Covid-19 lockdown gave her an opportunity to learn to paint on her own in the beginning, after which she started joining formal watercolor classes online in the latter part of 2020 to further learn the art and hone her skills. Her favorite painting subjects are florals and birds. Vicky joined virtual art exhibits during the Covid lockdown in 2021. She has joined the “Flora de Filipinas” Art Exhibit organized by the Philippine Botanical Art Society (PhilBas) in May 2021, the “Para sa Kalikasan” exhibit, a Philippines-Malaysia Joint Art Exhibition in July 2021 organized by the Philippine Fauna Art Society (PhilFas) and the Malaysian Art Society and the “Of Art and Wine, Part 2” exhibit organized by the Philippine Botanical Art Society held in September 2021. All of these exhibits were held in support of promoting nature conservation in the Philippines.For this year’s journal Vicky shows her love for florals and birds through her Sampaguita and Philippine Eagle watercolor paintings, the national flower and the national bird of the Philippines respectively. She hopes her paintings will inspire Filipinos globally and promote love for our country’s God-given national treasures.
