Carlos is a versatile Filipino artist and the grandson of Angono’s renowned muralist Botong Francisco. Totong’s body of works include images exploring the other side of the subconscious. His festive themes dwell on the visceral, symbolical, transitional, and the metaphysical. His current approach to paintings can be described as Figurative Automatism and Abstract Expressionist. For Totong, Art has no boundaries, it is food for the mind and soul. It is a challenge creating something special out of your inner passion, heart, and freedom. Totong studied Fine Arts, with a major in Painting at the University of Sto. Tomas, Philippines from 1989-1994. He has been a full-time artist since 1996. His recent works present semi-expressive art forms and figures that are translucent and ethereal, creating illusions that are floating, delicate and light, vanishing and temporal yet casted by lively, vivid, and warm colors suggesting the celebration of the moment and capturing visuals often unseen at first sight.
